`Elpitiya Walauwa

This exclusive holiday home 'away from home' is situated in the suburbs of Kandy, the ancient capital of the Kandyan Kingdom of Sri Lanka. Kandy is in close proximity to the more ancient city of Gampola and is at an elevation of approximately 1650 feet above sea level. Gampola was the site of the Kandyan Kingdom prior to its transfer to Kandy during the last quarter of the 15th century in the reign of King Wikramabahu. Elpitiya Walauwa with a history of over 175 years is currently owned by the fourth generation of the Panabokke Family. It is now a National Heritage site recognized by the government of Sri Lanka. The five bed roomed mansion is comfortably furnished with traditional furniture; whilst the bathrooms are fitted with modern amenities with hot and cold water. We offer traditional home cooked meals to our guests.

Elpitiya Walauwa offers the traveller beautiful, eco-friendly surroundings for a tranquil rejuvenating holiday in a cool, meditative environment. You can either take a quiet stroll in the evening along the banks of the Mahaweli, the longest river in the island or hike up the tea slopes to enjoy a birds’ eye view of the plantation of tea, coconut palms and spices and the surrounding area.
