This exclusive holiday home 'away from home' is situated in the suburbs of Kandy, the ancient capital of the Kandyan Kingdom of Sri Lanka. Kandy is in close proximity to the more ancient city of Gampola and is at an elevation of approximately 1650 feet above sea level. Gampola was the site of the Kandyan Kingdom prior to its transfer to Kandy during the last quarter of the 15th century in the reign of King Wikramabahu. Elpitiya Walauwa with a history of over 175 years is currently owned by the fourth generation of the Panabokke Family. It is now a National Heritage site recognized by the government of Sri Lanka. The five bed roomed mansion is comfortably furnished with traditional furniture; whilst the bathrooms are fitted with modern amenities with hot and cold water. We offer traditional home cooked meals to our guests.
Elpitiya Walauwa offers the traveller beautiful, eco-friendly surroundings for a tranquil rejuvenating holiday in a cool, meditative environment. You can either take a quiet stroll in the evening along the banks of the Mahaweli, the longest river in the island or hike up the tea slopes to enjoy a birds’ eye view of the plantation of tea, coconut palms and spices and the surrounding area. Elpitiya Walauwa is in close proximity to explore the wonders of the region, the culure and the historic sights which includes the revered "Temple of the Tooth", the ancient Temples of Gadaladeniya, Lankathilake and the shrine at Embekke built in the 14th century AD.
For the more out-going and adventurous visitor, Pidurutalagala the highest mountain rising to a height of 8282 feet above sea level is about an hour and a halves drive through the picturesque high grown tea plantations and rises from the foot of the famous hill station of Nuwara Eliya which was appropriately christened "Little England" by the early English settlers due to its climatic similarity to their home country. To those who are keen golfers, the Victoria Golf Course at Digana is an hour's drive from Elpitiya Walauwa. The beautiful Royal Botanical Gardens at Peradeniya is a walkers’ paradise with over 4000 labeled species. Sri Lanka's first residential university is about fifteen minutes' drive from Elpitiya Walauwa.
